Baltimore, MD, August 19, 2010 – UPM is pleased to announced the addition of a Hosokawa Mikro Lab Pin Mill. This addition is in response to our clients needs and will provide UPM with greater processing flexibility.
This stainless steel LPM II mill is designed with a cooling mode that allows continuous processing of powder. Without cooling, it can process in batch mode from 5 to 250 grams. In either mode, it can mill down to (d97) of 25 micron particle size while maintaining high yields. It incorporates a Hosokawa Model Mikro EF-7.5/1-U vibratory feeder with feed rates up to 3600 rpm at 60 HZ. A discharge suction source can be utilized to provide a forced flow through the mill.
Edward Scholtz, Ph.D., Vice President of R & D, notes that "the addition of a pin mill with cryo capabilities broadens the range of UPM's size reduction capability for pharmaceutical powder processing technology." This is a real advantage particularly for Clients with direct-API-in-capsule projects where API needs to be within a certain particle size.
Fully appreciating that time-to-market is critical, UPM offers remarkably flexible, affordable, and rapid outsourcing services designed to meet clients' specific development and manufacturing needs. UPM's clients represent both small and large companies, within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and academic institutions who have a focus on clinical studies.
