UPM PHARMACEUTICALS®, INC. IMPLEMENTS NEW KORSCH XL SERIES TABLET PRESS

Baltimore, MD, February 5, 2009 – To further accommodate client needs and to expand our broad equipment train for solid dosage form processing, UPM Pharmaceuticals®, Inc. has acquired a new Korsch XL 100 tablet press. The Korsch XL 100 is a pharmaceutical rotary press that can accommodate both “B” and “D” tooling and is designed for R&D formulation and small scale manufacturing.

This new press will include a low volume powder feeder to minimize precious API waste with the capability to quickly replace turrets and other change parts for faster project turnover. The new Korsch is currently being utilized for several R&D projects and is expected to be fully validated for cGMP manufacturing by the first of March 2009.

"Adding depth to UPM’s equipment line-up, the new Korsch 4B/4D-station press supports rapid and agile formulation development,” comments Dr. Edward Scholtz, Vice President of Research and Development.
